PESA 2023

Background

The YMCA Plain English Speaking Awards (PESA) 2023 is an annual competition organised by YMCA of Singapore, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and the Speak Good English Movement. The objectives of the competition are to promote public speaking in plain English as well as to provide a platform for students to hone their confidence in public presentation.

Description

are a few segments to the competition. Prior to the Semi-Finals round, the top 14 students were selected based on a video submission of a planned speech that they had presented. During the Semi-Finals and Finals rounds, students attended an experiential learning journey and crafted a planned speech in response to their experience. There was also an impromptu speech segment where each contestant was given up to 2 minutes to prepare and demonstrate their ability to improvise and speak spontaneously to their chosen topic. 
We are proud to share that one of our Orchidians, Javier Tan, emerged as one of the top 7 Finalists in the Upper Secondary category for the 2023 PESA competition!
